Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

From the reading I've done: the Jersey Giants are more of a novelty breed due to their very slow growth and poor feed to weight ratio. The only way to be successful (profitable) is via full time free ranging on big acreage: so I've read... If this is viable for you; go for it!

{pout} I'm not in Ohio {pout} Lots of pics please! One of the local 4-H dad's is there and he is hoping to find a Speckled Sussex Rooster for our eldest boy. I'd love to see pics of those too! Our current stock is hatchery and shows it.

Ok, we have had very good weather in WI for November, and the birds have been really happy to be outdoors, but now little ice balls are coming down. I have waited one day too long for winter quarters! So when I get home I get to finish furnishing the insulated room the DH (who hates chickens) built for me in the pole shed, pick the 40ish birds of their summer roosts and put them in winter quarters. It is 16 X 20 X 7 high and has a 3 in fan built into the ceiling (estimating 5 hours to change the air in the enclosure). Then we get to nervously watch for ventilation issues. I believe temps will not be the issue this year, but the DH is a perfectionist and a tight builder, so I may have to cut additional holes in the enclosure walls to allow air in from the pole shed.

Cute chicks all. I can't hatch any until at least January, and then I would have to find somewhere warm for them that is not the house. We are on chick withdrawl, so thanks for the pics!

So my Del Roo played model this morning

He's such a ham. Very sweet towards humans...no agression, no rough pecking, not a hint of anything towards the kids

OK, folks. Doug Akers Del pullet placed first - I have contacted the other Del people here - met some nice folks and have some good pics to post on Monday - no Dels at all in the sales, and Doug won't sell me the pullet.
