Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

I don't know if what it means, but my Delaware pullets from Bill Braden never had any signs of barring in their primary tail feathers. They do have slight ticking/barring in their secondary tail feathers, but even as young pullets their feathers grew in black edged in white.

Maybe it's one of those things that sets apart the different breeder lines?

I didn't hold on to a Braden cockerel long enough to see how he colored in, I really wished I had.

Thank you. I am just not into bathing a chicken, for one thing!

Maybe someday; never say never. I just don't know that showing really interests me. I think about it and I waver.

In Lake City, about an hour away from me, there is a chicken show every year. I have been to it the last two years and there has never been a - -

1.) Delaware
2.) Marans
3.) Speckled sussex ( this year there were a couple of entries in the Junior section)
4.) Welsummers ( pretty sure there weren't any this year).

So, I do plan on showing them .. . . I don't care about winning, but I just feel like there should be some representation of the breeds there.

There are always tons of leghorns and rhode island reds there and those funky feathered geese . . . You just got to wonder

I promised peepacheep that I would post her pictures here. Since she saw the pictures [posted on this thread] of the hen aprons on kathyinmo's hens she asked me if I could make some for her hens. I think she was pleased with them. Anyway, as promised here are her sweet hens [I am not trying to toot my own horn or anything

Thank-you for posting the pictures Hillbilly Hen! I have yet to figure out posting pictures on BYC with our incredibly slow dial-up. The aprons are terrific! They cover the wings much, much better than other ones I have tried. The hens, Valerie and Mahogany, have not been able to grow wing/shoulder feathers for some time. The rooster keeps breaking the feathers off as fast as they emerged. Also the other apron/wing protectors I have tried have a loop of elastic that goes around the hen's neck. This has really stressed my hens. Generally they forget how to walk forward for an hour, sometimes they fly backwards, other times they give up and flop over on their sides. The worst was one not eating for hours until I took the wing protector part off. Hillbilly Hen's design has no neck loop. Valerie and Mahogany gave their feathers a good fluff and took off exploring the living room, no stress. Thank-you Hillbilly Hen!!!!

You are wlecome peepacheep. I cannot take full credit for the design though. I was given an apron a couple years ago that did not have the wing protector so I just patterned mine like it and then decided to try the wing protectors. The first couple that I made for my hens the wing protectors did not turn out as good. These seem to be better.
