Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Just to add to the genetics conversation.

I crossed the Delawares with my La Fleche (both black and white females) and when I put a La Fleche over Del hens, I got chicks who had a LOT more color, more barring and an interesting red throwback to the Del genetics. VERY few look like the La Fleche. I also got growth at least 1/3 faster than the Del chicks and twice as fast as the La Fleche.

I have switched to Del rooster of La Fleche hens and so far, the coloration isn't as pronounced and the growth rate isn't as good. It also seems to have more barred chicks than before.

Very Interesting to me at least...

Have any photos? I'd be interested in seeing those. Going to take a peak into the genotype and see what's there.

edit:

I just read the news about the tornado's going on in and around Joplin, Missouri. I know there are people from that area in here. I hope you are all doing well and it managed to miss all of you.

Take Care

We are lucky to be north of there. I'm getting nervous though. My family was hit in the Tennessee storms 3 weeks ago and now it is in Joplin. Seems like it is getting closer every storm! I am praying for those folks in Joplin. That was truly awful!

Here are my cross pictures: The white ones are Del babies or a Del x Cochin... Those are cute too...

Over 100 dead in Joplin. Oh please, don't let it be any of us. Those poor people probably think their world did come to an end. God bless them. Gloria Jean

Did all you Delaware lovers make it through today's storms/tornadoes? We were in a touch and go situation in Kansas City for awhile but made it through. I heard Arkansas was hit hard last night and central and easter MO is getting it right now. Let us know if anyone needs some assistance.

Hi everyone,
Haven't been here in a while. I was hoping that my Dellie hens would go broody but they haven't.

So, I would like to buy some new stock. Which breeders have the Delawares that you admire - and why?
I did join the Club btw

Contact Bill Braden and get on his list. I've had 3 girls from his line try to go broody this year.

It doesn't hurt either that they're beautiful birds.

I just wanted to pop in and send out prayers to everyone who is in the path of the storms or maybe in the path and to send out prayers to the families of those that have lost loved ones. Please everyone stay safe.

Kathy~

I was way wrong when I said there were only 3 pullets in those chicks you sent.....sneaky little girls making me think they were roosties. I don't know the total count yet, but I know I have more pullets than cockerels. Wheeeewwwww!
Hope you are staying safe my friend.
