Another month on the roos should really tell the story as to who the "candidates" are.. LOL.. Many of the ones I have here really didn't start showing what they "really are" until about 20-24 weeks.

Very good Kathy. Your project birds have a great start. Has the cross been pretty stable, or was there alot of culling (body type)? The off spring of the New Hampshire I crossed onto the production rocks were all over the place. The cockerel I kept put size and weight on fast, but now that he has "grown up" some, I do not know if I will continue with him or not. Ofcourse he would be my youngest son's favorite. . . Looking at these pictures, I might make a similar cross and see what I come up with. I want to go in a different direction, but the start is the same. Good Luck.

Hi George,
I have not done any culling yet. These are all I have in the older group (from cock #1) .... 1 male and 10 females. Some are a month older than others. The rest I farmed out to my partners. I do, however, have another batch of F1 chicks growing out now. They are from Barred Rock cock #2. So far I am liking the type I am seeing. I may cull half of these girls and use only the ones I like the type the best on. Not sure yet. I will work on culling more in the next generation.
If you don't mind me asking as someone just starting, what do you look for in the birds you keep and the ones you cull? I know I would like them to grow relatively fast and large and to look like a Delaware should, but is there anything else that I should be watching out for?
I have listed on CL (regionally) many times and no one even asks questions....
I'm selling pairs of Delawares. These are almost all William Morrow stock, few are Braden. Local pickup meets, but "local" is Knoxville, TN to Dalton, GA and from Asheville, NC to Crossville, TN.
I have what I'm thinking is 3-4 species of preditors and lost 20+ birds, most of which Delawares. Just trying to save them and get them homes fast. Morrow's are just about POL, and Bradens are 4 weeks behind.

The racoons over here have really picked up the pace the last few weeks. Even with the dogs outside they are trying thier best to bust into the feed. So sorry
I have a few extra roos growing out. If I don't end up with a good one I would love to get a pair from you. Do the young roos go through a stage where they look like they might have too much black? I can't remember what my big guy looked like last year.
I haven't been able to sell anything lately- not even pullet chicks.
