Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Jeff, yeah, George makes me really itchy to see what my three will turn out like. I am keeping my fingers crossed that its my really friendly one, though, he has a great attitude and seems to be developing a good "lets take care of the girls first" sense of duty.

How common is it for Delaware hens to go broody? Are there any particular strains that are known for having the tendency to raise their own chicks?

Thanks,
Kim

Kim,
None of mine ever have. But I have only had them two years, and I have a bunch of pullets from a second strain that are too young to tell. I am hoping I will get a bunch that will go broody.

I have one that is broody right now. Three weeks after laying her first egg!

I know I have one of Floozy's daughters......fiercely broody, twice this year and she isn't even a year old yet (will be in about 2.5 weeks), DOES NOT stay in her designated coop, thinks that she is the Queen of Sheba and rules the place, will ride on my arm, my shoulder or head..she's not picky, will jump in the feed wagon and eat right out of the bin until her little heart is content and will not lay her eggs in the coop or the next box, she prefers an old stump.

I love her......despite what kind of trouble she is giving me or she gets into!

Here she is giving me the look because I caught her preparing her spot at the stump and just getting ready to settle in.

So do I! I'd love a Dellie like that.

So, is Floozy one of Kathy's girls? Is she from the project?

I'm trying to learn which strains may go broody since that's something that I value in my flocks.

Is anyone going to have Delawares that will go broody for sale at the Nationals?

Thank you,
Kim
