Honestly, for a hatchery boy IMO he isn't too bad and looks like he has the potential to be a great beginning to your own Del flock. He's a bit smutty on his back and he could have a fuller chest but he isn't the worst example of a Delaware I have seen, hatchery or breeder quality.

See if you can source some big typey pullets next year and pair them with him, hatch and then cull heavily towards the SOP.

ETA: Did he come from Privett?

No he came from Purely poultry, which used Cackle, he is just 6 months old on thanksgiving day. as far as I know he really hasn't had a molt yet, tail feathers mostly is what I found in the pen. They were Born May25th. I'd love some big bodied pullets for him, these are most likely his sisters, as they came from the same hatch, though Cackle had some fertility problems this year and my original first order in March, I did not get any Dels. they had none, so 2 months later I got the 5, 3 roo's 2 hens. so if they were having problems maybe their was more than 1 rooster in that pen. I'm hoping so anyway, until I can get some more ladies for him these gals will have to do, I will also let him have my BR pullet, and my white rock hens, for extra egg layers and butchering roo's. in my mixed flock. I would really like to keep in the future just my 2 favorites, which is these beauti's and my SS. I so totally love spots,,,,,........,,,,,,

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

As of last night, there are 10 chicks. Another is still trying to hatch, but she had to take the rest of the chicks out of the incubator to give them food & water, since they had hatched 48 hours ago. She's not sure whether to help that last chick hatch.
I am so happy with this experience. I ordered a dozen eggs. BB sent 18. None broke during the trip from OK to CA. 3 did not develop. She's wondering about the remaining 4, since she didn't expect any to hatch until today.
She says that she has never seen such friendly chicks! They run toward your hand when you reach in the brooder.
She sent me a video. I noticed one chick is not as lively as the others. She said that one's not eating, yet. She also said that 2 have what look like curved feathers.

Since our prior experience with shipped eggs was one rooster out of 2 dozen (SGD) eggs, we are thrilled that this has turned out so well!

Har, how many eggs are you incubating? Have you bought eggs from him before?

This little man is 7 weeks old and the friendliest, smartest little guy I think we've seen out of my Delawares yet. In spite of being raised by a broody, he comes when called, jumps on arm or knee on command, loves to listen to anyone talk and cocks his head from side to side like he really understands. DH is getting way too attached, I tell ya.

Looks like he'll have a nice 5 point comb and the leg color is perfect. His color is, of course, still coming in, but so far, so good.

Cyn, he is a little cutie! I have one too that is just a week older raised by a broody till he was 4 weeks old. I got too attatched to him so he is staying here. His name is Herbie.

Why do we get so attached to the cockerels? They simply cannot all stay here!

That Herbie is looking good. My chicks in a brooder chunk up more than the ones who run around all day long with a broody mama. Maybe all that exercise and a more varied, less fatty diet, LOL.
