Lacey, there IS a bit of resemblance there- how fun! Genetics baffle me.

Yes she does resemble a Delaware at least pattern wise. I'd venture to say the reason she has that type pattern is form the males side with him being a Red Star aka: Gold sex-link half of his parentage was more than likely a Delaware patterned hen instead of the more popular solid white(silver) hen in such a case as this.

Mrs. Beth you're right, genetics sometimes baffle mee too

thats why its fun

Nice looking birds everybody that has posted recently and I have to add I now am an owner(in my possession finally) of three more Delawares thanks to Mrs. Kathy being so kind as to sell me some along with a passle of NHs and BRs. Once again thanks to you Mrs. Kathy I'm getting my group built up into a more breeding situation now.
I have my boy that I can name Dale now accordingly for originality of course

There is usually a dominant hen in every bunch no matter what the breed. I have a black Orp hen that is an absolute terror. She owns her coop, run and the roo and everyone else better get out of her way. In my Delawares, there are bossy girls, but not mean ones. You may just have a little hoodlum on your hands.

Hillbilly hen, This guy looks like one of mine.... Where is he from ?

Hillbilly Hen, I am having a hard time getting my photos to upload tonight. . . I am trying though. Here are two pics of my youngest roo. He is 7 months old.
This is my stalker who follows me all over the yard doing the wing dance and chattering NON-STOP!

Lisa, I can see the resemblance- how tall is he? I would love too see shots from above and from the back if you ever get the chance to take some. They do move around, don't they?

Farmer- Della Reese looks to be nicely marked - hard to tell her body when she is stretched up like that, but she looks to be round - do you have a shot of her from the back?

I'll try to get some. This guy is so determined to posture for a date that it is hard to get in other profile

I went back and looked at hillibilly hen's pic and I think my guy has a longer back. I think according to the SOP, he should have a shorter back.
I'd like to see his chest fill in deeper too.

He is 7 months old and I am hoping he will do a little more fillinf in over the next few months.
To me the delawares seem to take a little longer to reach their peak.

Hi! I just discovered this thread! I have 2 Delaware hens and I love them! They are named Spot and Speckles. Spot has had laying issues and after a very expensive trip to the vet, is now a pet house chicken. I do have a question. Being outside (and now with the weather being ickie) she has gotten her awesome white feathers dingy. I have tried to bath her. (She is fluffy and soft) but still not white. How do I get her back to a bright white? She had prolapsed and had to have her insides stitched up. She is healing very well, but still isn't as white as before. Any suggestions? I found a pic that was took after her surgery. She has become great friends with the 'chicken in the mirror'!

Hangs out there a lot now. (Sorry Not the best picture taker)
Spot.
