Ok so here are some pic I took yesterday,

For now share with some turkey poults but the rest are some shamos (from a different breeder than my older shamos). Some Pakistani an Assels I got on ebay? They are the white ones. There is also some Sumatra’s in there and two Malaysian game. Hopefully the stags will tolerate each other long enough to let me build some more pens ha ha.

Nice birds P&J. You need a mature cock to throw in there to police the little killers. They are at "strawberry head" age. A mature cock will allow you to keep them together til about 7-8 mos old. The idea is that if anyone is gonna kick butt, it will be the older cock. Been doing that for many years. Watch out for the Asils. They turn on quicker. Better put the pedal to the metal building those pens. Good luck...........Pop

That is a interesting thing I did find when I got my Shamo and started comparing differences of them to the American fowl. My Shamo is 13 months (in June) and just now has spurs large enough to call buds, and the way I've seen it/heard about it some lines never do grow spurs.

ok i was sent here because my "welsummer cross" may be a game hen, heres the history. We moved in about 2 months ago and had 2 chickens come with the house. They were left over from whoever rented the house before us, and were the only two left out of the flock of thirty. The house went unrented for 8 months, so unless this was hatched afterwards, "she" is at least 8 months old. These two are what got us into chickens and right now im up to i believe 39. Anyways, this one and the RI White cross we penned up about a week after we moved in, they are on 16% layer feed, 3 grain scratch, oyster shell, grit, plain organic yogurt, and crickets(once a week from the baitshop), also they get ACV in thier water about once a week or so. Now the RI has been giving me an egg almost daily since 2 days after we penned them up, but i get nothing from this one. No eggs, No crowing...nothing... also they are completely penned up and no longer free ranging, so i know shes not running off to hide her eggs somewhere. so.. any ideas on what she is, and if she really is a she, why she wont give up her eggs.

Hey Chief I'm new to games and my 11 week old Thais seem to be turning on and I was wondering if you could elaborate on what kind and size of pens that you are talking about. They are little cannibles already. One morning I culled a 3-4 week old chick, choped his head off and threw him in a bucket. I went out a little later to discover that the Thais done got that chick out and half et him.

I was hoping to put them in a 50'x50' pen.

Well, I'm not very versed in Thais, Shamos and the like but I suspect that most of the game breeds are alike. For my American games that are hatched in a bator, they spend about 3 weeks in a brooder then out to a larger pen. 12 chicks seem to do fine for a few weeks in a 4'x8'x8'. I'm limited on space I can devote to them, so we make due in what I consider close quarters for them.
That being said, usually at about 5-6 weeks they have to find out who's the boss. How extreme it gets really depends on the individuals. Sometimes its swollen heads and minor injury, then they get over it and live together for another month or so. Other times its much worse. I have a couple of 8'x16'x8' pens that I will put larger groups into that have a lot of roost space, and multiple feeders and waterers. In the larger pens I just watch for the ones that are overly aggressive and separate them as they get out of hand. At which point I'll pair them up with a pullet in a 4'x4'x4'. I've had as many as 8 stags and 6 pullets live together up to about 14 weeks with little conflict. After that they each get their own pen, some of the stags tolerate a pullet with them and others do not. I've had other groups that had to be individually caged at 5-6 weeks. The more space the better between the little guys once they reach "that" age. Young pullets raised together will usually get along for the most part until you separate them. Reintroducing them is 50-50. Some times you can others no way.

Also, it seems to help to keep them occupied as much as you can. Stalks of broccoli, heads of lettuce, anything to keep them busy. If they get bored they tend to pick at each other.

I have left the Rooster in with the hen when she hatched the chicks to keep the peace and they did well up to about 7 weeks in a 8x8. But then the hen started roughing up the chicks so they went through the same process as the others.

I really can't free range very many where I live, but when I was a kid my Dad would let most of the chicks run all over our farm and they would segregate themselves pretty well until they were 7-8 months old at which point we would gather them up.

Sorry for blabbing so much, but I hope it helps a little.

Thank you every one, yes I am getting to the breeding pens for my games as we speak. I have two trios and one pair of the older Shamos, that could turn on any minute or as my Grandfather would say once it rains on them and they don’t recognize each other.

Yes Pop I have an older cock in there actually there are several including a huge white giant and older SLW that for now rule the pen. But I know any day the games could turn on and those barn yard cocks are in deep trouble. I still have some PH American games to grow out as well as some Cuban games that I managed to acquire locally (pit birds).

I admire games and love to have representations of each cultures version of the same thing, beautiful , powerful and game.

Ish
