Show Off Your Games!

Here are some puerto rican toppies purchased from Al Sanchez. ..the speck ,and canela are my fathers..im getting a matching cock to my india soon.
They are GAME bred, and are very docile. This trio will be single mated and i shall have my f1 generation going...they are 10 years in the making, so ive got a head start :) Mr Sanchez did a great job with these fowl. Im a first generation gamefowl breeder and am proud to have met such a bold, honest man with honest fowl.

Nice looking birds. They have a lot bigger toppy feathers than games I used to have. Looks like you have enough material to start three lines. What do they weigh?

They really are mid size birds around 3.09 and 4.12 . Shot in the dark i havent weighed them . The india is smaller than the canela though by a few ounces. Theyve been linebred for some time and are due for an outcross within the family to attain some hybrid vigor, and size . Thats what were going to do, weve got a 10 yr head start . Do you have any pics of your toppies ?

I now longer have them. A gray toppy cock was bred over pullets from one of our lines for about 5 years. I was allowed to setup my own walk from f1's of those to explore genetics of color and other aspects. Entire lot was discontinued when I went to college 30 years ago. Weight of those was decidedly upper 5's to lower 6's where the grey toppy tended to pull the average up. Even when a bird was homozygous for toppy trait, it was not as big as what your birds show.

The Puerto Rican games, like Spanish gamefowl, won't get as big as their American Game cousins. I have had Al's fowl before, very nice little birds, and the rose combs are a cool addition to the yard. Had to downsize the yard due to my plant closing and unfortunately sold all the Spanish games we had. You are very fortunate to get to start out with super nice fowl from a great gamefowl breeder. Good luck with your new birds...
