Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

Are anyone's OEGBs laying right now? Mine have been free loading for way too long. Every one of them! The other girls are picking up, but good grief.
Yes, it looks like a couple of the original OEGBs, possibly some of the crosses and some of the crosses with the small Silkies. I find the Silkies lay quite well at this time of the year.
It seems more OEGB eggs in the last week or so.

I'm going to try to get a picture tomorrow of my 4 month old OEGBs. In the mean time I have a quick question. On of the little cockerels I know for sure has some Cochin Bantam in him due to the feather stubble that he has on his legs and feet. He also has something that is making me scratch my head. His wing feathers are predominately black with some cobalt blue while the flight feathers are brown. What's weird is that the brown flight feathers are split as if somebody has taken the feather and purposefully split the feather part from the shaft out. Every flight feather is that way and the feather is covered in splits. As I said, I will get pictures tomorrow because it is hard to explain what is going on with these feathers.

I have to say that I totally love these birds. The boys are funny and determined and the little girls, one looks sorta kinda like a Wheaten and the other a partridge, are the sweetest little things that like to fly up and sit on my head while I'm doing my coop chores. I'm getting ready to move them into their own pen but it's just so chuckelatious to watch them try to outsmart and out move my full sized roosters when it comes to the ladies. I'm hoping to hatch some blacks this summer because frankly I WANT MORE!

My girls must have felt shamed. I got an egg today!! :yiipchick

It came from the mixed color pen, SDW rooster over a blue brassy hen and a ginger red hen (she's my designated broody this year lol)
None from the SDW pen but I'll take it as a good sign! :)

I bought some spangled OEGB eggs and set them yesterday. Can't wait for chicks!

The rescued ones aren't doing great, have lost the majority of them, down to only one surviving rooster and two hens but they have now been wormed and deloused and the weather has warmed up, so there's not much more I can do for them from here on out and I just have to hope they recover from their ordeal and make it to spring.

Aww you tried Pyxis!! They still likely had a more peaceful death than what would have happened to them.

Good luck with the spangled hatch :fl

(now I have to go google some pics) :D

I'm so sorry to hear about the losses. Losing chickens you're trying to help is heartbreaking.

That was so kind of you to give them a home. They were very fortunate chickens. I agree with WV...their time with you was much kinder than what they'd experienced. These little guys are so inquisitive and intelligent, they would have been watching everything you did for them and they would have known...

I've found here, OEGBs to be winter hardy if they're in great health and condition. If they're young or a little bit susceptible...they have a harder time. Mr. Peeperton and his sister had a difficult time last winter being hatched in the fall. He didn't resume growing or maturing until later this spring...lol. You're little guys would already have had a rough go...so please don't be discouraged. I hope the remaining ones respond and are able to hold their own until it warms up.

The split feathers you're mentioning makes me think of Silkies. Your pic will help. (at least me...lol!)

OMG...I love them too! And WAY too much. They're MUCH too personable and sweet and lovely and friendly. My favorite thing about them is how they come and complain to me...lol! I both incubate and had broodies brooding with the intent to sell. And I didn't sell any of them. I'm literally over run with them.

They're DH's favorite type of chicken. And that's not helping me resist. Plus I saw fawn colored ones looking up Pyxis's spangled birds...and that didn't help AT ALL! Now I want fawn. And maybe more.
