What about the white head and part of his throat
Beautiful PhotosFor the Most Striking Domestic Fowl contest I entered Alto. I do love Peep a bunch but Peep is harder to photograph because he is like my shadow. Alto is just more striking looking to me and Peep is more cute to me.
Here is Alto
Damsel
Snow White taking a dust bath.
One of Peep's double eyes.
The whole time I was outside with the birds Alto was up on the pole in the shade. I fed him some bread while he was up there but he wasn't interested in coming down.
Another egg.
My lazy boy Frosty.

Barring detail
Ice
Shyanne and her brother Frosty. They are both very close.
Peep
Ice preening her wing feathers.
Frosty napping like always...

I cannot really get a good look at the front of the throat in this picture. The head is very white, but all black shouldered chicks start with a whiteish colored head and thru each successive molting the head feathers will grow in more blue. How old was he in this picture? It can be very tricky to tell if a BS is split white or pied especially in hens and juvenile males, they have so many white/cream colored feathers it can hide the white. Generally I would expect to see evidence of such a split on his primary wing feathers. Are any of the red ones white or white streaked? If not and they are all the solid red with a black outline then I think you are probably just seeing juvenile feathers on the head, if any of those red wing feathers do have white he is split to something.
He was 8 mo old
I only see black shouldered males no IB males but this photo must be older cause didn't you loose a male?
