Show off your Peas!

Our only peababy of the year has arrived! (Mom and Bubbles both abandoned their nests this year). Good hatching, Chicken Girl!
Freeranging peababies face a lot of dangers, I hope the little guy makes it OK...

By the way, while I was watching, Chicken Girl pooped and then ate her poop and tried to get Peababy to eat it too. Is this common? If so, is it just nutrition or is it one of those things where the poop has bacteria the chick needs?

I don't know about the poop eating thing either, but it sure makes me glad that TSC sells those little packets of probiotic powder!

Great photo!

Here are some photos I took of my recent visit to Bird Man's (Glen Morris). He has pheasants (like peafowl, etc), waterfowl, chickens, and a great Pyrenees guarding it all.

I thought this Reeve's pheasant was being friendly when he walked up and was making noises at me, but instead he pecked me hard and kicked at the fence wanting to fight me.

Grey Peacock pheasant male - He just displayed and I didn't get photos fast enough.

Java peahen...I think it is a high % Spalding.

I like the rooster's tail. I guess he might be a phoenix...I am not knowledgeable about chickens.

New pheasant runs.

At Bird Man's the peafowl love to walk around on top of the pens. This peacock was having fun displaying on top of the pen.

A very happy pheasant with some bread. We brought a huge bag of bread for all of the birds. The dog got some slices too.

The dog walking around and some peafowl walking along side the pheasant pens.

I love that blue color on the wings...

Lady Amherst Female

Peahen on her nest. Bird Man said if they nest in the woods they will be eaten so they always nest within the fenced in backyard (if they are smart).

She left the nest while I was walking around so I got a glimpse of the eggs.

Free-range peahen

Lots of pens full of different kinds of pheasants

This pen he planted for quail. The quail are not in here yet.

Silver Pheasant. He has a lot of these right now.

The very good great Pyrenees that guards the place. Bird Man used to always have predator issues, now he has none except for rats.

Turkeys

A peahen nesting. You would think she would want to turn a different way to be more comfy.

Oh look! It is one of those new varieties with a green train!

Yellow Golden pheasant male.

I had fun talking to Glen and he gave me some tips. It is always fun seeing the variety of birds he has.
