Show off your Peas!

This is an ongoing thread which never gets old! As long as you stay away from the Green Peafowl, you will not need any additional heat. A good shelter is important, in my opinion anyway. We have a huge barn that used to be a chicken barn, it has double walls with insulation, so it makes for a nice winter shelter. As far as pen size, 100 sq ft. per bird is a good rule of thumb.

This the barn i want to have in the future.

By the way, do you know the total barn size? Width, length and height?

Guess what? Safeguard at 5cc per gal of water is not enough! I just got back from the vet my Big Blue had a crop full of roundworms!! And I just wormed them 4 weeks ago! So now I worm them again with Pyantel for birds, each one !

I know it is 40' wide and the length is either 160' or 180'. Good to hear from you q8, I haven't been on much lately and I miss all you guys!

Hello, I know this is an ancient thread, but I was wondering if anyone raises peafowl up north? I'm in New York and am thinking about getting some this spring/summer. If so, what size pens do you have and is a heat lamp adequate or do they need a heated shelter. Thank you for any info.

My pen is not as big as I wish it would be but they work very well. An outside run with grass and a few dust bathing spots and they eat the small pebbles to help with digestion when needed is 12'x12'x8'. The inside is 10'x15'x8'.

I agree,or something similar.I'm starting to try and plan out all my peafowl stuff. I try to plan things out though it's going to be like 8 to 10 years before I get started since I'm going to have 8 years of college in 10 months to be a veterinarian. Big dreams just trying to plan and hope to make a reality. Same with the peafowl I want and how many I want is another dream.
