Show off your Peas!

I have one pen with four hens that have given me two eggs so far.

Ive got an IB hen that laid 28ea straight this year, I left eggs for her to set thinking that would stop her, after 14ea eggs I realized something is not right, I had to move her out of the pen away from her man to get her to stop. She laid 31+ in a row at the end of last year. Something hormonally is out of whack for sure. Too bad she's not a green, at this rate she will be burnt out pretty fast and probably will not live past 10yrs old.

Holey moley! I have never heard of one hen laying so many in a stretch!
What is she? I mean... is she out of IBs and not a split of any sort in her background?

My BS hen did something in the 30 - 40 range last year before I got smart and left the eggs to pile up. This year, she was going great guns, and somewhere in the 20's she dragged all the ceramic duds together, added a few more of her own and a couple that she stole from the other hen that was laying, and she stopped, thank goodness. I think @DylansMom mentioned having had a marathon-laying hen or three also...

Have you considered the possibility that the greens have quietly worked a deal on the side with her? Maybe she's the designated surrogate mom?
