Ooh WestKnollAmy Velocity is so beautiful! What a peacock! What does his train look like?

As far as I can tell Velocity will have a full white train. I can't see any color it it yet but wonder if he may surprise me with some hidden feathers in there that have a bit of color on them. Now Zazous, he has color in his train.

Here is Velocity and his lady, Tempo about a month ago.

He is still a very striking silver pied though! The peahen you have him with looks very pretty too. So this is their first breeding season? It will be interesting to see what kind of markings the chicks have.

I believe they are just now old enough to breed. They have been in that pen for 2 years supposedly so maybe they are 3 this year. Not really sure but they are not over 3 years old and I was told they are just 2 this year but looking at his train I think they may be going on 3. She has not laid any eggs that I know of but the first time I saw them in this pen there was a huge black snake in there, too so if she laid any they may have gotten taken.

I got my very 1st peacock feather with the eye. I don't know if I should cry or be happy. :/

I know every time I go over to feed the peas I find eye feathers in the Bronze pen. There are 3 peas in a 10x10 pen so I am hoping once I get them home here where there is more room that Hershey won;t be knocking any off his train.

Do they lose feathers like when chickens molt? How often do they lose feathers?

I know the males lose their trains at the end of the summer but otherwise I know nothing about their molting.
