Opal Black Shoulder and Bronze Black Shoulder are definitely in the top 5 of my favorite varieties. They're stunning. I need to get my hands on some more Bronze. I have a Bronze hen (I think, she's still young, but her "green" on her neck is much darker than the typical IB green), but that's it.

You are very lucky! I remember seeing them when you posted pictures and they look awesome. All I have in the Opals is an Opal Spalding peahen.

Here is Bridges trying to "fool" his mom into thinking he is a big boy.



I am so amazed at the change in his temperament since he is in with a hen now. I never saw One Eyed Jack be mean to him but Bridges was always so scared when I entered their pen to feed and water. Steve told me we needed to put him in with a hen and his mom was the only extra one we had there at the time so Steve moved him over for me and today Bridges actually came up to me to see what all I had in my bucket (I always bring treats). He is a new "man"!

It's true, I wish I had nothing but peas! Mike bought us an incubator and is encouraging/enabling me to fine some eggs, lol (he likes the pieds) No emus, but peas we can do. He's even talked about converting part of the garage into a brooder.

It is said that the increased testosterone (male hormone) levels causes the swelling on the upper neck at this time of the year.Towards the end of the breeding season, this hormone level decreases triggering the molt and the bulged neck becomes flat along side.

I wondered about that last year, now I know, thanks.
