I was thinking about it but I have no egg experience.
How do I inspect? What do I look for?

I would take a flashlight into a dark room and see what was in it, you should be able to see if there is a viable chick in it. If the egg is cold and it looks like there is a chick in it, you could try putting it on a heating pad or hot water bottles, I got two near term pigeon eggs to hatch that way.
