Show off your Peas!

I put her in the big pen with goldilocks and the older boy. They all get along good. Shes skiddish. Hopefully that will change. The other three are the ones I already had. Was getting another Java girl but my friend needs it more....cause he doesnt have one. Cant be too greedy. haha. My setups are small too...and no grass of course. But I like my florida white beach sand thing. If it starts to look bad I just put some more on top.

Oh I see. Hopefully she will become friendlier. Try coaxing her with some treats. My Opal WE peacock is getting friendlier, but he is on the bottom of the pecking order so he never has the chance to eat out of my hand... My aviary made an amazing recovery. As the snow melted, the whole pen was mud. The grass regrew and now the only dirt parts are the parts from the winter that were exposed and covered in duck poop. I like the whole sand thing! I will have to do something like that (probably stones) for the parts that I have no hope of grass growing. In the aviary every single plant has to be fenced in due to it being destroyed if left unprotected. Some plants that are not fenced in has some leaves just out of the reach of the peacock. And because of this my running bamboo has not spread at all.

I can't wait for the pictures tomorrow. I am sure she will calm down. I would be freaked out too if I had been traveling in box and then was let out into a pen that I didn't recognize with birds I didn't know. It would be like the human equivalent of moving to a new state and being in a new school and not knowing anybody.

The other birds will hopefully help her calm down.

I have been emailing Texas Peafowl about keeping a grassy pen. It sounds like a lot of work! He plants a different type of grass in the winter and he said you have to keep it cut or else it will fall over and kill itself because it is too long. He is working on making new pens right now and told me it is interesting to compare his newer pens to the old pens because his process of making new pens has gotten more detailed. He has already made 6 new pens and is working on 3 more! I can't even finish 1 new pen yet... XD

How exciting about your new girl arrival! Congratulations!
She'll probably relax soon, especially since she has Goldilocks to show her the ropes.

Is that a giant bird of paradise outside of your pen? I bought one this year and planted it near my pen and told the guy I buy bamboo from that I was excited about my bird of paradise and he said they are too sensitive to grow here but yours is really big! How does it do in the winter?

Your green peahen looks really nice. A lot of times the captive green peahens seem to rarely have that much solid barring on their train. She has lots of nice barring! Your peacocks have pretty orange faces too. I am sure I have asked you this already but what do you feed them? I don't know if I wrote down what you feed your peafowl.

she likes him

Young boy eating his favorite treat(bananas) Actually its not a bird of paradise. But my nextdoor neighbor has 5 barrels full. They just have to put them in the house when freezing he told me today. They are in bloom as we speak. Yep that girl is really barred.i got her from an old man called Marvin in Ohio I think off softbills for sale . I feed mine mainly chicken layer more than anything but they get gamebird mainteniece and birdseed throwed rignt in now and again. Also theytreats at any time. They include cat food, dog food, unsalted nuts ,grapes, acorns, melons ofvarious kinds and the bananas,About little of everything .

They are looking good! I did not get a chance to get any pictures today since the weather was awful. It was really cold and a mix of snow and rain...
