Show off your Peas!

Just posted these to another section, figured I'd put them here also. Here are some of my babies.

FBC! I'm so happy to see Mr. Thang! His son, Wylie, as far as I know, has the longest "train" of my coming 2-year olds. I'm not sure if any of the boys have eye feathers yet, I haven't seen them in a while. :(
And, of course, my Wylie has the most character (aside from Muppet). Thang sure does make pretty babies!

My dad sent me a picture this morning of the very first pea egg ever laid at my place! I think it was either Olav or Muppet, they're the oldest, and they're only a couple days apart. The rest of the girls are a month younger I believe. Unfortunately, the egg was frozen solid so I can't do anything with it, but it happened! And I think that's pretty cool.

Oh, what do pea nest boxes look like? I figured I'd have my dad build them when the time came, but the time sure snuck up on us! Dimensions would be fabulous. :)

I need to visit them and take more pictures. Maybe the next warm weekend we get, I should plan on it. Unfortunately it's supposed to be COLD here for at least another week or so, so don't hold your breath...

I need Opal girls!

I mentioned Opal girls!

Really though, I've got 13 peas. Of those, the Opals consist of 1 Opal Silver Pied male, 2 Opal Black Shoulder males, and an IB BS split Opal male... guess how many Opal females. ZERO!

Opal is one of my favorites. If it were up to me I'd have Taupe in my "pea quad" but we all can't be so fortunate.

I will gladly accept Opal hen donations! Lol! I don't have the time or money to get any right now, but I will eventually.

If you have an area of dirt with a roof over it with a corner they will lay in it like so.

This my peahen Jadea with her egg she just layed.

We built nest boxes for the peahens and only one has used one of the boxes once in four years. The best thing to do is not give them a nest box. They seem to like nesting in corners and I have plants in my aviary so I have one peahen that always likes to nest under a bush.

My peahen Ice nesting in a corner underneath a shelter I made with palm fronds.

Damsel nesting under a bush in the pen.

The nesting box with 4 different boxes which they hardly ever use. In the past they sometimes used some dog boxes I put in the pen but they seem to do best just making their own nest.

I made a nesting tire and elevated thinking Jadea would use it but that went the other direction and they just used it as a perch to over watch the chickens. They will find a place to nest eventually. I think peafowl don't really like nesting boxes unless that is the only place to nest but they like corners under things in the dirt or grass the soil has to be loose though which they can do themselves.

Our breeding pen had one nest box, and the hens used it. One egg was not laid in it, but the rest were. The year before with my first peafowl eggs, the peahens used nests. Only when I let one free range did she make her nest amongst some ferns.

I just uploaded this as a test... This is a photo of Peep as a chick. Luckily I am able to upload my photos to BYC, but I needed to upload photos to other sites to show on a different website and those sites were saying there was some sort of issue with my photos. I am not sure what is going on...
