Show off your Peas!

My peahen layed her first egg rather early this morning or late last night and she's showing signs of laying another, The egg was fertile and I've began incubating the egg now!

I will post a pic of it when I get a pic.

OMG I love peafowl and I hope to get some in the next 5 to ten years .

But first I have to be able to afford a place big enough from my large population of water fowl ( so somewhere with a large pond ) and an area clear enough to where I can sea all the peafowl at one time

It really shouldn't be that hard since I live in Mississippi but does anyone recommend pinioning the pea fowl chicks ?
I would never recommend doing this to a pea, it is their only way to escape if something gets after them weather they free range or get out of their pen by accident they need a way to escape predators

This is a cameo hen

Guess where the nest is

Hey Birdrain, just a thought here, but you might consider cleaning out that bator between hatches. I know some people say it doesn't cause a problem, but I don't like to take chances. The wrong type of bacteria in there could wipe out every egg in it.

Quote: Glad you said it, 'cause I was thinking the same thing. Even though I keep mine pretty darn clean I still lost a few ducklings to bacterial infections. Going to do a really thorough cleaning *before* I set any pea eggs!

LOL! I tend to be a bit of a clean nut. I received some shipped pea eggs this morning and I'm currently disinfecting my egg holders in bleach and then I'll pop them in the dishwasher on HOT cycle, to make sure. Gonna set these eggs point down for the first week, seemed to help with the air cells on the Barney eggs. Wish me luck!

I'm hardly a clean nut, lol, but why take the chance? Shipped eggs? You're brave, lol. Got lots of eggs here that I should set or eat, still not sure what I'm gonna do.

mandyok and I swapped eggs, I sent her whites and pied and she sent me purples, I'm trying to get a purple male for my 2 purple hens( also from shipped eggs last year). I am in the same boat with eggs right now, I had someone who wanted a dozen eggs and has been calling me relentlessly, now that I have them, he changes his mind.

So typical! So I really didn't want to hatch from these pairs as I hatched a bunch from them last year, but now if I don't, eating will be all they are good for. If you want some pied or white eggs let me know I'd be happy to send some, see if they can cross the country and still hatch!
