Show off your Peas!

I was wondering the same thing

If you get along with your parents well, this is a great option. Most of my friends save money by living at home and just commuting to college. Also, it seems like 98% of people who live in the dorms have a room mate that they don't like or even hate. I have never liked school though, so the thought of living at school is a horrible thought. I like being able to go to my classes, jump in my truck, stop by my Grandma's to feed the peafowl, then go home. I sooo do not live the college life.

Don't join a frat. Just my opinion. Seems like they turn decent guys into jerks - not saying everyone in a frat is a jerk, but...

Make good use of the free things the college has to offer. I don't really do this, but I still say take advantage of it. At my college you can rent Xboxes, computers, etc for free I think all you have to do is show them your school ID card. Also at my school you can rent canoes, boats, etc. You can go to the gym and climb the rock wall, do yoga, etc. The only things I utilize is the college pool, the sauna, and the art gallery - just had 3 things in a show.

If you need any help let me know. College is a lot easier than you think. Or at least mine is. I guess I can't speak for others. Go Argos!!!

Sadly though where we live there are no close Agriculture Vet programs. Rather I have to go to Eastern Idaho in Twin for College of Southern Idaho or I go North for University of Idaho in Moscow. I'm probably going with U of I since they have a great Vet program. I will never join a frat house. I would like to stay home but all the Ag colleges are to far to stay home and attend. I will probably live in the dorms and I hope I get a roommate that is in the Agriculture area. If not I hope he's not going to be one I hate. I get to go up to U of I though every year for FFA Competition in Livestock. It's pretty cool and they have their own dairy and sheep herd. They're trying to get a Poultry Science class and if so I know what class I will take. Also since I'm going into the Vet program I would be able to use the labs for research! I will let you know if I need help.

Are you going to be able to live at home while you go to college?
I'm hoping to go to University of Idaho since they have FFA and I'm certain I can get a scholarship since I have a high GPA and since I have my State Degree. State Degree is the highest FFA degree you can get while in High School. I'm going into the vet program. I'm thinking though of only doing 4 or 6 years. That way I can come home for a little bit try and get my own property and my own livestock and if I feel that I can go Vet then I will complete the last 4 or 2 years. Sadly though I won't be able to see my animals very often.

I really stressing at the moment! We had been away for most of the day. Ball games then to Bloomington to SAMs club etc for the afternoon. We returned home just at dusk and put things away. I went to lock up and it being a nice night all the peas were roosted on the roofs. All but the hen!!? When the babes saw me they came down to the coop roof and then back up to the house roof but she isn't with them. They are never apart and she's never slept anywhere but the roof or inside the coop. My teenage son was home and left with friends about 6 and said she was on the back deck. I've walked thru some of the woods and all around the house, shed etc looked up into the trees and cannot find her. I don't know what to do! I'm sick to my stomach! Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? She wouldn't have decided to nest somewhere would she? I expect she will start this year but I would think its too early yet and would she choose to do it at dark?

Crazy! I checked outside and at 12:30am there she sat on the roof next to the babes! I know she wasn't anywhere near them before. I was shining a flashlight all over and saw her nowhere. So strange

If you do happen to get a misfit in room mates, you can always switch. I enjoyed living at school, there was always something going on and so many places to explore. I went to Michigan State (many, many years ago) and once I got used to biking everywhere, their farms were within reach. It was great.

The fact that you have to leave to go to school tells me that perhaps your folks are not really into the idea of caring for a bunch of left behind peas and other animals so they are putting limits on your stock, i have kids that left their pets here for me to care for when they went off to school, they never came back to get them even after collage and i was left to care for them till they died from old age, not what i wanted to happen but it did

I know that the only animals he won't mind taking care of is my 2 Gelbvieh cows. Hopefully though before I leave I can get some more Gelbvieh cows. My dad says I can buy as many cattle as I can. I wonder though since I will have 2 males if my dad will collect the feathers and sell them or just let them pile up in my room. I will probably keep wondering about my animals while I'm in collage. Of course after collage I just need to find what Veterinarian Clinic will hire me. I know of one that is close and they do have poultry specialists. I'm planning on getting an Internship with them.
