Show off your Peas!

If you have a good relationship with her, you could offer to pay for a DNA sexing. It costs $7.00 per bird and all you have to do is get her to clip a toenail and get 1 drop of blood on a sample card, which you then mail to the lab. I used this service last fall and was so pleased, I ordered a dozen sample cards for myself for this season.

PS. Ordering the cards costs nothing.

Do you just mail it to a local veterinarian center? That sounds cheap. I might have to do that hopefully just stay with my aunt who lives 45 minutes away from this lady for a weekend when I go get the whites. I'm getting excited for either or. Just being able to get White peafowl. I'm hoping if I just buy 2 random whites that I get a pair. Just getting one white male would be nice because so far I only have on pen male and one wild male and 3 hens. How long does it take to get the results?

You order your sample card from HealthGene, and they send it to you free of charge along with a return envelope that you mail the card back in, you pay the postage and send along a $7 check. It took about 2 weeks to get the results. I did the random thing years back, and to be super sure I got a pair I bought 3. This is them.

You will may need to ask her to put leg bands on each chick you want to get a blood sample from so you can know which chicks you are testing, but you will need to do the test for three chicks at least to be sure you will have a pair from them.

Very good advice! Whites are impossible to tell apart as chicks.

It seems that way. Well then it seems it might be something I might need to do during summer break that way I don't have to run 2 trips just stay with my aunt until I get the results if I DNA sex them which seems to be wise.
