Please share yours views how to protect the birds in summer
i live in Islamabad (Pakistan) .In summer here's temperature reach up to 48 C to % 50 C ( on average its remains 46 ) i have pair of peafowl. the setup ( cage ) in on the 3rd floor .the setup is 20 feet in length and 10 feet width . the cage is made up with fiber sheets and iron bars, and also an open area , the following steps i carried to protect them in summer from heat stroke :
1. cover the fiber sheets roof with tick cloth tarpaulin
2. for the heat proofing i use foam sheet name jabolan as insulation
3. the floor covered with marbles ,,,,,,,,,, to make it cooler i covered that with sand ( mixture of river sand + normal )
4. every morning i do water spray on the sand to make it cooler
5. to protect them when they out in open i covered that area with green sheet
6 . fresh water twice a day (change every morning and evening)
7 . use electrolytes in the water
8 . feed them green
spinach two days in a week
9. Mixture other feed ( sunflower seeds wheat , crush maize , sorghum seeds , local feed ( feed grower ) rice and dry brad )

i wrote all the activities which i normally do, to make it simple for those who want share their views.
please correct me with reference to above activities.

Our temp here is almost the same like yours, i use water cooled air conditioners, it really helps cooling their pens, if not you can use a fan and try put many small pottery tubs, it will make the water colder and the birds will stand in the water trying to cool their bodies.

I absolutely love love love the BS hens! They are so beautiful. As alot of you know Little Eagle was sick when I got her and I had a really hard time getting her better, it took months! She is doing so great and shes happy and full of energy!

Me too! This yearling Spaulding Black Shoulder hen I just got is the BOBM!
I can't wait to get her out into the sunlight so I can get good pics of her true colors.

Oh KsKingBee I love the way Spalding blackshoulder peahens look! I don't like the males as much but the hens are really beautiful!

Rocking BAB has a good amount of Spalding blackshoulder peahens and they are all really colorful. I just love the markings on them and that hen of yours is really nice looking.

I can't wait for more photos of her what are you breeding her to?

She is not quite two and I bought her as a pair with a SBS cock, also two years old. I got an unexpected upgrade as I bought yearlings and he had run out of yearlings and gave me two year old birds instead. They both look a bit rough as they were a bit crowded in the grow out pens they came from. It will be really nice to see her after her next molt and having better pen space and nutrition. I guess I may get some eggs from her this year, just had not thought about it that much. Until I get some more pens built they are going to run with another pair of SPurpleBS and a trio of Peach SP.

I find the colored birds, especially the Black Shoulder birds, are more interesting to watch transition as they mature.

What? You don't find it fascinating to watch an all white bird turn into an all white bird?

Personally it's the Pieds that I love to watch as they go from this
