He has no eyes yet and is afraid of the only hen I have old enough to lay. I bought her some eggs when she started sitting on hers so she is incubating those for me now. I have been checking hers but they haven't been fertile yet. This latest is the second clutch for her this year and I think I usually get 3 or 4 out of her so maybe the later ones will be fertile

I don't think they need any eyes to be fertile, but if he's afraid of the hen that could be a problem! I had a really dominant white hen years ago, she laid unfertilized eggs for 8 years. I don't think she would allow any of the males to mate with her. I finally gave up and gave her to a friend and she promptly laid, sat, and hatched 4 babies. Guess she just didn't like it here?

Have you considered the possibility that the greens have quietly worked a deal on the side with her?  Maybe she's the designated surrogate mom?

Super great read Kathy. She is the only hen I have doing this it started last year. I finally moved her away from her rooster and she stopped only to start up again a few days ago. She does have something off inside Ive almost gave up trying to stop her because she is already stressed out.

Are you sure they are only 1yr old? Peahens usually will not lay until their 2nd year as their reproductive organs are still developing and at 2yrs old its normally minimal eggs. Roosters can be fertile at 2yrs old but it usually comes down to their mechanics and practice. Post pics of your birds if you can and we can help you gage their ages.

I for sure know they are a year old, I bought my pied boy May 23rd last year as a baby, I got my first IB girl and boy June 14 as month olds, My black shoulder white mix I got Jul 12th at 3 weeks old, and my 2 ib girls (sisters to the other two ibs from june) Sep 13th about a month old. All in 2015.

There is always a chance, i see one of your males has pointy end spurs, this one can give you some fertile chicks.

I have yearling hens lay eggs all the time. I have never tried to hatch any since they are usually in with yearling boys. Not all yearling hens will lay but there are some that are ready and will give one or two or even more in the first year.
