any other suggestions of what to get them next time I'm at my local farmers market?

Have you tried black oil sunflower seeds? My chickens love them.

Ok someone please help me. I have a mayor issue. About 2 weeks ago I got my first flock of 5 red sex links. They were friendly and all for the first week but always shy. Recently they have been running away from me, squawking when I pick them up, and some of them try to peck me when I feed them from my hand! I'll give them a fresh blade of grass and they try to peck my fingers!!! So now I'm very upset. They are supposed to be very friendly birds and were when I got them! Now I don't know what's happening?!!! Am I doing something wrong? Am I over reacting? How to I tame them more?!!! HELP PLEASE!!

Chickens will peck a lot of things out of curiosity, not aggression. I have a White Rock who's obsessed with pecking my nails if I paint them, because she's curious about them and thinks they might be food. A way to minimize pecks is if you hold your hand out flat like you would to give a horse a treat. I've found that you still might get pecked but it's less frequent. You can help tame them by setting up a small fence and sitting in there with them. Put the treats in your hand or scatter them around you so they get used to your presence. You can also talk in a soft voice to them.

Heres a article that may help you:

Hope this helps!

That does help! But my chickens don't like sunflower seeds either! Why don't they like any of this?!

Here's a treat list for chickens:

It may take awhile for your chicks to figure out that all these new treats your feeding them are yummy. Plus, each chicken has their individual likes and dislikes. One treat that is pretty fool proof is a fried egg.

I know how tough this is since I'm currently introducing a 3 year old Red Sex Link hen to many treats she's never had before.

I have a very prominent freckle on my wrist and for weeks they would peck at it every time I picked one up. They have stopped now I guess knowing it's not food lol.
