I don't think I agree with this, personally. I think their natural lifespan is longer than we give them credit for, just that so many of them die from outside forces like predators and ailments and it makes them seem like they're shorter lived overall. I have many birds in the range of 8, 9, 10+ years old not showing any signs of slowing down, for example. I can think of only a few over the years who have passed before those ages from anything that couldn't be explained by an outside force.

Also, I took pictures of my other three guys this morning while I was opening coops. 😁 This is Axel, my barred Plymouth Rock bantam boy:

And the Chocolate Mottled Orpington boys. Bruner is the one with more white, Rayburn the one with less white. (I may or may not have a major soft spot for these puffball boys so I took several pictures of them :p They're just such big lugs 😍 )

I gotta agree. I've lost many at just a few years, but I also have a ton that are getting close to 10 and they almost seem healthier than some of the younger ones

Oh! Spitzhauben! I have one. But he is very pretty!

What do you mean “to help increase numbers at hatchery?”
WCB polish are almpst nonexistant in the US, let alone avaliable by hatchery, so i think my hatchery got some, and added spitzhaubens to the pen because theyre close enough to help make more faster. Their color pattern is the right colors but the wrong pattern and they look closer to my spitzhauben hens than to my polish pullet bodywise

Ah ok, thanks!

Hoo, boy, well I have way too many roosters so I suppose I can spare a picture or two. 🤣

My Silkies, starting with old man Reuben. He's a Paint Silkie but he lost his splotches a long time ago. :p

His son, Russell. I have no recent pictures of Russ, so he's filled out a lot since this one (and his brother in the background, Rufus, was culled)

Rosey, a Silkie x silkied Cochin mix who is Winter's son and Roscoe's grandson

My other four silkied Cochin bantam boys haven't had their pictures taken in a while, either, but here they are the last time I took them. Diesel, a silkied Blue:

And I also have some big ol Orpington boys, but I only have a recent picture of Dawson, my Crele Orp boy. You can see Brune and Rayburn a bit in the background; they are Chocolate Mottled.

I also have a Barred Plymouth Rock bantam named Axel but I have no pictures of him recently and I'm not sure which is him out of the baby pictures I have because I sold his brothers. 😬

And I think that covers all my boys :th
WOW! I am in love with your Cochins and bantams. Absolutely gorgeous!
