Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

After 2 batches of about 20 eggs, I only got 3 Showgirls. Wish I knew more about this thing called genetics.
And of course Stoopid didn't tag the one WITH the gene, so now I have a bunch of blue chicks with ONE carrying the NN gene.
I need a bigger hatcher so I can keep track of this stuff

Will get pics later, the other two, one is black, and the other partridge.
The partridge is bearded. Strange looking....

Partridge! How cool! Yeah...this Showgirl breeding can sure be a challenge! I've had to add another band color to my list to mark my Silkies that carry the gene. But isn't it a BLAST!?

I say "Boy" for Rooney! Cute little dude!

Roberta, your's is looking good! I just candled my eggs tonight at day 11, and after a long and hard trip to here, it looks like 5 of the 11 are developing!

C'mon SHOWGIRLS!!!!

Thank you, Debbi! Rooney has more personality than anything I've ever seen. He's so curious and brave...another reason why I had a hunch he is a "HE" .

And GO CHICKIES for your eggs! So exciting!

Pardon me while I hog this thread....

I had 2 new beauties arrive via USPS this week so they are in quarantine. The hen has presented me with 2 eggs (much to my excited surprise!). What will I get with a Showgirl x Showgirl?? I put them in the 'bator since I've got a throng of guinea eggs percolating...hmmm...

I, too, am looking for some showgirls. I absolutely love them. I would prefer white. Does any one have any hatching eggs, chicks, or young adults? :)

What were the parents? Naked Necks to Bowties? NN to NN? Bowties x Bowties? NN x Silkie? If they were of a NN x NN breeding you might want to cull or breed back to a pure Silkie, depending on what the off spring look like? Too much NN can bring up some undesireable traits, such as red skin, less toes, etc. Always seems best to breed NN back to pure Silkie to retain the nice conformational and feathering qualities??

Thank you, Debbi! I will find out what their parents were. The plan is to use them on my Silkies for more, better quality Showgirls, but they are in quarantine together right now. I didn't realize the hen was laying yet (5 mths) so the eggs were quite a surprise! I'm excited to get them in my Silkie pens, but couldn't resist putting those eggs in the 'bator (hatchaholic? not me...)
