Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

lazer is sooo beautiful .

Here are the chicks from my recent hatch on 6/19/12.. I was able to hatch all from hen #35 and my bearded cockerel. at the time she was the only one laying in that pen. I set 10 eggs all devoloped but only six hatched and one was a silkie. Half have good toes and the other half are either missing a toe on one foot or only have four toes. I was hoping i could figure out which is thronging the bad toes.(hen or roo)? I believe this will take some time. and very tedious record keeping. Has any one tried this? If so do you have any suggestions that could speed up the process.

Lynn, Lazer is one of your eggs! I just love him, he has a nice body, feathered to the middle toe, and is a sweetheart! What types of birds are you breeding together? Is the bearded roo a NN? Is the hen a Bowtie or Silkie? If you are breeding him to Bowtied females, try breeding to a Silkie for a bit to get back more of the Silkie traits? Lazer will be put in with all Silkie hens/pullets, so I'll get some of both. Then I can breed him to a Bowtied daughter, and hopefully get a NN roo out of it. Then put that roo in with my Silkies again. Cute baby pics too!!

Both showgirls are bearded/ bowtied. I have a nice trio of silkies that i got at the spring show. one of the hens has started laying., but the rooster is not breeding even though i was told he is over a year. anyway I put the hen in with my showgirl rooster. hope to hatch some of the eggs. will be setting some this weekend. If the silkie rooster isn't doing anything by fall, I will most likely sell him. He will be great for a 4H'er, he loves attention and is so gentle with the chicks. He even likes the new puppy.. will walk right up to him and start talk-en..

Thank you! I love her. So might grow up to be a rooster. I'll have a rooster name Phyliss. My dad always said that Phyliss Diller did my hair. He died a little over 2 weeks ago, so Phyliss it's going to be :)

Question... Do showgirls grow / much like a silkie? Was wondering when i should be expecting comb/wattle development ...hoping my two are girls... But wouldnt be suprise if i get a roo... ( thats just my luck)
