I did look but i think that one was only 6 eggs. I cannot bring myself to pay to ship 6 eggs- it's like the goose egg auctions that are only 2 eggs. The numbers just don't make sense to me.

Thanks SSS!!! Yours were soooo tempting too!!! I wish I wasn't downsizing!

It was 6+ just to be safe

I sent a full dozen. I usually post updates as to how many I collect though the auction. I may have another batch coming up soon if you are interested. I will prob do a mix of BBS, Lave, and Porcelain so that would be 12+ if everyone keeps laying.

Looking for advice. We are going to look at Showgirls tomorrow. They are for my daughter's birthday and her 4-H project but will mostly be pets. With the possibility we would breed in the future, I want a decent bird that will not pass on bad qualities and hurt the breed. What obvious flaws should we avoid? Please don't assume I don't know anything about Showgirls (cuz I only know what I've read) and let me have all the basic guidelines.

I have read about 50 pages of this thread so far and have a list:
Black Skin
Blue Ear
5 toes
Good feathering on middle toe
Bearded if available

What am I missing? Also, I plan to buy a trio of birds. Should I get all 3 Showgirls or get a Silkie roo? We have no bantam size birds right now so this is our beginning flock.

Thanks in advance!

I would look for a bird with nice overall type. A nice cushion, decent sized crest, and a nice overall balance. I like the list you have going. Maybe add toe spacing and direction of 5th toes. Also check the combs. A lot of showgirls I have seen can have pretty poor combs. You want a nice sized, dark, walnut comb, with no points.

As for what roo to pick, I personally would either pick a silkie roo with showgirl hens, or a showgirl roo with silkie hens. There is a chart of possible outcomes on the first page of this thread that may help...do you know if the breeder has bowtied (het) or clean necked (hom) showgirls?

It looks like she has both. If you get a clean neck roo and put him over silkie hens you will get 100% bowties. I prefer bowtie to silkie to get a mix. One other thing to look for is to get one with little to no hard feathers in the tail if possible. Good luck and have fun picking them out!

Hi there,
Just wanted to let you know I got my first starter flock from Brad (Leggs Peafowl Farm).
Very nice man to do business with. The birds I got were only intended for a beginning breeding pen. I wouldn't say any of originals were anywhere
close to Show Stock. I now am four generations into them and they have much improved.

I also have a three 14th generation chicks growing out that I haven't taken pics of yet.
