they need draft free area out weather if they have bird top knots some times other bird pick on then kinda like silkies

I have a insulated coop with vents, a window (can close and open at any time) with no drafts.
Your basically saying that would be enough?
Ya, i thought they may get picked on like what happens to crested birds.
Will they pick at their bare necks?

Crests impair their sight and make it harder for them to fend for themselves. It isn't as bad in showgirls as it is in silkies.

Was lucky today and purchased a pair of Blue Partridge Showgirls - pics are not the best - they are not used to me yet and refused to cooperate LOL I'm in love with this color. The breeder doesn't believe Showgirls should be bearded, so he doesn't select for it, I will have to work on that...or perhaps not, not sure yet.

edited to add, I got to see another color variety he is working on. It is mostly white, with partridge shoulders/back and a blue top knot. He hasn't named it yet. I hope to get some of those next summer!

The man I purchased from is renowned for his work in poultry genetics. I'll take his word for what he says they are. He has developed many varieties of Peafowl and told me he is intrigued with the showgirls and wanted to play with the genetics to see what he could develop.

So I have a genetic question

anyway I've been thinking about beginning breeding ShowGirls. Would it be better if I take a silkie rooster and breed it to one of my Naked Neck hens? Was wondering how everyone got started ?? Thanks for being patient with me.

it would be easier to start with showgirl to silkie
but if u wanted to start from scratch it would be 2 generstions before u get silkie feathers and 10 15 generations befor u get one looks like what u want
