showgirls

So I think I will take your advice and go buy a nice digital thermometer I am using the one that came with the incubator now and it is reading a steady 100 degrees now but I better be safe huh? They have only been in for 24 hours now so I hope every thing is ok. My shipment only took around 8 days and the weather in Va was not that cold last week so I will keep my fingers crossed. I think I will candle them on Sunday and see.

Yep, our thermometer was 7 degrees high! It read 101, but was actually 108! Poor babies

Edit to add: I guess you could just calibrate it against a human thermometer? Then you could make adjustments according to the difference? Someone with more experience would know for sure

Oh icedmocha!!! I am really really sorry! For your mom too!!! I have two thermometers in my bator just to be sure. One has a gage for humidity as well. I thought you meant they were damaged in transit. Gee, that’s awful. Have you ordered more eggs yet? I sure wish you big hatching on the next one. We are all just learning and mistakes do happen. My first hatch was a disaster. I am only now trying again. I am sending out happy hatch thoughts to you and your sweet mom!!

Okay...I got my new showgirl eggs today!!! They are also from Angie. They were packed so well that again...UPS could not break them if they tried! There were extras and everything!!! The first batch was lost for 12 days (due to holidays). Even after 12 days I candled today and there are two wiggly black babies inside!!! I truly did not think I would find anything. So do not lose hope if they were delayed a bit. I live in NY with really cold temps as well. My new eggs came today despite the ice storm yesterday and a snowstorm today!! It only took 4 days, counting the day shipped. I will wait a few hours and then put them in the bator with their brethren! The others are due on my birthday, (I did not plan that)

I sure hope everyone else’s hatches go well!!! Keep updates please!!!

Sewincircle how long have your 1st eggs been in the bator? I'm on day 4 now and I candled on day 3 just to see what they looked like and all that I know for a fact that I could see was an air cell in the a couple of them didn't even look like they had that but I'm still learning so I'm going to wait till day 7 to see if I can see any difference in the way they look.

I set them on Jan 2nd, soooo thats 6 days old. I could not tell either til now! I tossed the bad eggs incase they crack or break. I could see the blood viens and the black bodies. They actually were awake, because they moved around. It sure was cool. But it really took until today to see everything clear enough to say...yes, they are developing. So I would wait and do it again around the 7th day. (Like you said) I sure hope you have lots of developing babies. What are you using to candle? I dont have a candler so I rolled black construction paper into a cone with a one inch opening and put a flshlight inside. It really works. I was gifted a lovely egglight by one sweet egg fairy! It works great too. I used it today. Good luck and let me know how it looks at the next candle day!

Ok I candled when I got home around 2am and I can see lgr little showgirls working there bits off to be chicks I see dime sized circles with veins in 17 out of 22 of the eggs I couldn't tell on the others becouse the shells have little dots all over them so I think I might have something keeping my fingers crossed it is only the early start of day 5 so things could change.

Veins are very good. You can candle again in another few days to weed out the eggs that are not developing. WOW you have that many??? You rock. I have about 15 eggs total. I put my new showgirls in yesterday. So I will candle them in about 5 to 7 days. I am excited. Yes, the eggs are spotty. It is hard to see veins isnt it. But the black dots are clear. their eyes are HUGE! I sure hope you have tons of little showgirls running around. PICS!!!!! Are the kids excited? You will have to candle with them so they can see. Have a great day!
