showgirls

We got our eggs today!

All of them are in perfect condition, not even a scratch. Thank you, Angie, for everything!
I had to call Mom at work to let her know

Her coworkers at the library are all into it now, too. One of the women actually wants to get chickens! They all want to buy eggs from my mom, I think it's so sweet. Of course, we only have one laying hen right now. When Mom's peeps mature, she'll have her own little egg business

Gosh Angie, I hope you're feeling better soon. When my husband had the flu, he went to the doctor, got antibiotics and prescription med's & still was miserable for over a week. Two weeks later when I caught it, I didn't go to the doctor & I doubt that my husband got any better any faster than I did. I think the only thing that seemed to help me was Sudafed for the congestion, Tylenol or Naprosyn for the aches & fever and as much rest as I could get.

Well I'm at work right now ... having to work overtime til 2 am. I didn't have a chance to separate the silkies and showgirls from my marans chicks that hatched before I added them to a brooder that had 2 day old chicks. I've just been so rushed lately! Never enough play time with work and overtime, and feeding all my critters. Anyway, I know there were at least 5 or more chicks that have the showgirl characteristics. I remember seeing some yellow showgirl chicks, some other colors and several colors of silkie chicks. I intend to split them up in their very own brooder, since the marans grow so fast & will outweigh them soon. I promise to take pic's just as soon as I have some spare time. Of all the eggs I got from Angie, only one did not develop, and one chick expired before hatching. That is EXCELLENT RESULTS from shipped eggs! THANK YOU ANGIE! I'm definitely happy with my chicks. Oh, and I also want to clarify that Angie sent me both showgirl and silkie eggs, although sometimes showgirl eggs may hatch out silkie chicks ... at least I think that's how the genetics go on that sort of thing. Eventually, I need to figure out the genetics part of this, since I just recently bought some frizzle eggs on BYC (some could be naked neck) and just last week bought a frizzle turken rooster. It sure is fun having odd looking chickens! I never knew that variations of naked necked chickens could be so interesting!

In the eggs I got from Angie 20 of the were a light tan color and 2 of them were white is there a difference in the eggs or do they just lay different color eggs or maybee silkies and showgirls lay the white and light tan eggs? Oh yeah I still have I think 14 showgirl eggs developing and a bunch of auracona eggs doing good I can't wait till the 25th or the 26th for my hatch .

I think egg color has to do with the crosses that determine color and such. I know ear lobes determine color. (red lobe breeds...brown eggs, white lobes...pink to white eggs...ect.) Angie could probably tell a lot more. Mine where all different colors too. Some brown, some white and various shades.
Iced Mocha, the 21 days came before I knew it with the first batch. We candled a lot and have to hand turn them so it seemed to take no time before the due date. The hatch on the other hand seemed to take 45 days!!! It was like in slow time!

Its all worth it.

I can't wait to do the first candling. It's so magical, seeing the tiny chick just kicking away in the egg

If egg color is related to earlobe color, why don't silkies lay blue eggs? Wouldn't that be cool?!
