We had a bumper crop of morels last year, about stepping on them all over. I also had some guy decide to park on the property and walk in, probably looking for them. Called the cops and ended up towing his car away - they tried calling him on the loudspeaker. Serves him right for attempting to steal my morels.

We go for morels and hen of the woods usually. I'm good at finding puffballs well after they are gone to seed, someday I'll catch them when they're edible!

Watch out for false morels all you morel hunters.. It's the #1 on poisoning.

We are in Chanterelle country... Blacks and Golden's are what we hunt..

Books use at least two or three, cross reference again and again.. We have a pesky false chanterelle that is tough to identify lucky it is not a killer, it just does not taste good..

A good place to start (and stay for that matter) is with the non gilled mushrooms. Boletus are pretty easy to identify, just not that tasty..

Our favorite?: Lobster...

It is a parasitic fungi that attacks other fungi and converts them into lobsters. (Hard red blobs, that taste really yummy..)

I think it is regional... ??

Sure do miss morels, we lived in a place that had a patch of dead elm, and every spring, it was loaded with Morels..

HMMMM. Morels, fresh fish, and fresh wild asparagus.

Up where I am spring is for wild leek hunting, late summer for the shrooms..

Went hunting for morels for the first time last year and ended up with a bushel full of elephant ears. Once I identified them, I threw my share out. The two ladies I went hunting with ate theirs with no ill effects, then stumbled across some blacks without me the next day.

This area is rich in edibles during the fall. I've hunted white and yellow chanterelles, shrimp mushrooms, boletes of different types, oysters, shaggy manes, and last year even got some lobster claws! Yummm. :9

Wheres the best place to find them here in MA. Fields/woods?
And WHEN is the best time to harvest them?
