I've posted on here a couple times but still haven't gotten any help (but lots of welcomes! :) easter weekend I got 5 chicks from local farm stores. Two have died and a third one is literally dying in my hands. She was sick 1-2weeks ago but bounced back. And literally overnight is deathly I'll again. She had poo caked on her bum this morning but I cleaned her up and watched her eat. I'm at a loss of what to do.
I order babies that will be here may 6 and I'm terrified they will die off too! :/

Sorry you lost 2 with no help. Sounds like she may have had pasty butt. It is toxic to them. Is She drinking at all?

It was normal looking poo, when they've had pasty butt before it's been diarrhea looking. I don't know if that makes a difference. I haven't seen her drink since last night. But everyday as a "treat" they get their chick food with water, I call it mash. I just mush it in warm water. They love it! And I did see her eay that this morning

When mine had it the poo looked normal too. She sounds like dehydration now. Have you shown her the water. I would try putting a little sugar in the water and try to get her to drink. I love giving them the mash treat too. They love it.

Yes I stuck her beak in it earlier. She can't even stand up now :( and she wants to be held tight now. Should I try to give her some sugar water with an eye dropper?

You can try. Be careful that she doesn't aspirate it because she can't stand. I am so sorry. I have held them like this too.

Thank you so much for helping me! I doubt she'll make it though the night.
Should I be worried about my remaining 2? They're running around like mad women but so was this one yesterday.

I am not sure. I don't really know what happened to this one. Do they have pasty butt? Are you feeding medicated food? Do you give the grit?

I read your thread I'm sorry your losing your babies it happens more than not .medicated food may not be enough . you can try this .I use a product called durvet. duramycin-10 don't try figure out the dose like all chicken meds it's dosed for 100 chickens . 1/4 teaspoon per qt. of water is what I use or until it's looks like lime Gatorade .treat new babies for 5 to 7 days when you bring them home it helps to cut loses if you put them with others treat them all . do not treat for more than 14 days you should be able o get it at TSC or your feed store. good luck.

No they haven't had problems with pasty butt for probably about 2 weeks. They are getting medicated chick feed and the only thing I could find was parakeet grit. The closest tsc is about 30 mins away. I just picked up the parakeet grit when the first one got really sick.
Thanks BYC910 I will look for that before my new round of chicks gets here. Do you do that for all your new babies?
