Sick Bird? Strange Egg & Not Wanting To Leave Coop

Is that minimum or max calcium? That seems high for chickens but you feeding a mixed flock right? I think the normal. is about 2-3%. Some henna can't retain and use calium properly, bad sgell gland, but that won't effect all the hens just a select 1 (or few for larger flocks).

Sounds like worming would be the furst course of action. Waizen doesn't treat every type but is good to keep them healthy, most others have an egg withholding period (ie don't eat). If they don't return to laying with that i would take some fresh poops in for a fecal float test

I see! And if that gets resupplied does the bone get restored? Yes, I just checked and found a tag. It does claim to be "layer" with 4.3% calcium.

So worms can make them stop laying? Maybe cause the shellless egg? Will deworm first decent dry day we get, as long as health otherwise seems stable.

Wow! Well...maybe?? Don't see any evidence except for this one destroyed egg...and it was not eaten.

Yes, they can be so taxing on their system that they just don't have the nutrients to lay. Wazine would be fine to use for the first round - it'll only kill a certain species of large roundworm, which is good because if they have a high wormload of different species, you don't want to overwhelm them with a worm die-off, which can actually kill them.

So Wazine first, and then ten days later follow up with a broad spectrum wormer like Safeguard, and then one more dose of that after ten more days.

I'd also look them over good for lice or mites. May as well treat for them at the same time if you need to.

Yes it is surprising what parasites can do. anytime there is an unexplained drop in eggs its a good idea to look for parasites. I try really hard to only use the stronger stuff once a year usually around molt. But both fall and spring bring out the bugs which carry most of the worms to the flock.

So wayzine then safeguard in 10 days then safeguard again 10 more days? Plus a mite lice treatment of some sort? Any brands recommended for that? Sorry for so many questions. Newbie.

Someone else asked if chicken gets mad when I move her off nest. Yes, she does, and she returns to the empty nest unless I lock her out of the coop for a while. So guessing that is "broody" but has been going on about 10 days now.

Oh! Questions on wormers!! So I think did the math on the wayzine and figured out need 3ml of solution in 12.5oz of water for my five birds all over six weeks old. Ok. They will go through that water quickly, so will keep adding water prolly 4oz at a time over the day.

But what about the geese? Does anyone ever worm their geese? I mean what is the point as they do nothing but eat dirt. If so, how on earth would you calculate water because who knows how much they take in and how much they bath with. Certainly they would have hard time even drinking from a few oz of water. They need a gallon or two to slosh in. So...guessing no one worms geese but thought would ask. Yes, will keep their water separate from the chickens while worming.

The other thing? Safeguard. Have not seen any safeguard labeled for chickens. Guessing using the stuff for dogs or pigs or whatnot. How much would I use on my 5 chickens? Is there a liquid version you add with water then? Or you crush up and mix? No idea why no one in U.S. can simply make a wormer for chickens. Saw one company in UK but they cannot ship it to U.S. That is another rant, lol.

Yep she's broody, she wants to sit on eggs. Broody hens do not lay eggs while they are broody.

Yes i would worm the geese too. The eggs and fragments in thier poop goes back to the dirt is eaten by bugs which are then eaten by the birds again. Treating all the birds will help reduce the overall load in the ground too

No idea how to go about treating the geese, due to the way they messily consume/bath in large quantities of water.
