Ok, then its probably a bacterial infection. The doxy pills are actually perfect. Very broad spectrum. There should be some number or lettering on the capsule? What color is the pill, what was it prescribed for? We definitely need to figure out its potency before use.

I just checked my online medical chart for it. It is doxycycline monohydrate 100mg. It is blue I believe. It was prescribed to me a few months ago for sudden cystic acne which wound up being hormonal (hubs and I have been trying for a baby for quite some time) so I stopped taking it because it didn’t work for me. I have 60 capsules.

How do I administer it and how much? They are capsules. Should I give it to everyone in the flock?

I am doing the research right now, be right back. :)

Ok, how many capsules do you have?

Doing the math, at the recomended 400mg to 800mg of doxy per gallon of water, it works down to 1, 100mg cap per quart of water. If you have enough capsules, you could use 1 1/2 capsules per quart. If you don't have enough, you could use a half quart water and a half capsule. You need to use distilled water with this stuff and offer it up for 5 to 7 days. Make a new batch daily.

Great thank you so much! I have 60 capsules, I had just filled the rx and decided not to take it. I can also get more. They drink from hamster waterers, filled with purified drinking water (I purchase it by the jug) so I need to buy distilled water to use?

also, when I clean out their cages I use like a litter scooper for the poops. Which creates dust. Could that be an issue? Should I use dirt for their bedding instead?

You can use any type of watering system as long as he drinks. Sometimes sick birds go off their water so you may need to use and eyedropper for a day or so and drop a couple drops in his mouth to get him started. I would do this several times a day.

The reason for the distilled is that this drug is very sensitive to sodium in the water, sitting in it for 24 hours causes it to become very weak. All water has some sodium, some more than others. You can use RO water if you have that too.

Keep us posted, I hope he pulls through!!! :fl :hugs

Okay I have administered the doxycycline into the water for the whole flock just to be safe! He seems to be doing okay, he just not perky. He’s eating and drinking fine on his own. Hopefully everyone will be okay.

I’m still so devastated and mad about losing the blue female.:barnie Hopefully I can get this all squared away and they can hatch some babies soon.🙃

I will keep you updated on how everyone is!! Thank you so much for everything 😁

Great you got the meds started AND using on them all! If this is bacterial, it's probable they have all come in contact with it. It wont' kill them if this isn't bacterial, I honestly don't know what else this could be. Being that they came from the same breeder and have/had the same symptoms its most likly a bacteria of some sort. And no, it would take a ton of dust to kill them, especially if the others are ok.

I am so sorry about your hen. :hugs It's always disturbing to lose them, hard on the heart. Definitely do a hatch soon and please keep us posted on these meds! If the doxy is going to work, you should see a difference in 2 to 3 days. I will be anxiously waiting to hear he has healed!!! :)

Everyone in the flock seem to be doing okay! They are all acting the same, so maybe it is just his personality? I completed the course of antibiotics as discussed, and no one else has passed. My Darth Vader (Wolfgang) that was ill, his mate, the silver female (Puff) is also laying eggs now so maybe we will have babies soon!

Thank you so much for everything and, hopefully, everything is okay :D 🙏🏻

Thanks for the update, I am glad they are doing so well! Always a relief when you get them back to good health. :)
