My first thought was that it was coryza.

Could coryza swell from nothing to that big in 6 hours?

I've seen it happen, though I don't know if it was Coryza or not.

Coryza has an incubation period of several days. A whole flock can be infected in 10 days. That's why I ruled it out, and the hen and the rest of the flock wernt showing other symptoms. It's a nasty disease and birds are carriers for life. The thing is that there's usually another tag a long disease that accompanies coryza, like MG, ILT,or IB making it much more difficult to treat.
If my birds had coryza, I'd cull them in a heartbeat. That's one disease I would not want
to deal with.
