Sick chicks- UPDATE

Yes they are I’ll send a picture of the brooder. Yes they have access to food and water 24/7. Yes they start acting very lethargic and not moving much or eating much. They are 1 week old. View attachment 3081922
They don’t have a place to cool down
The heater fills the brooder
It’s really important for chicks to be able to cool down. Also water needs to be warm to room temp no cold water as it can put them into shock

The chicks are separated. One heat lamp is for one side of chicks :)
I had one heat lamp and my room was cooking
I couldn’t imagine 2 going
They are tiny areas to have 2 lamps
Please look at how they are as far in the corner as they can get to get away from the heat and still can’t
We are all only trying to help you and to help save the rest of them
Take them all out and let them cool off give them luke warm Water

I truly don't know why you'd wait to get a thermometer to unplug a lamp. I certainly didn't mean that when I asked if you know the temp. I was prepared for you to report back a temp that is way to hot.... You have nothing to lose, they are not going to all of sudden die from being cold, they have each other for warmth. Can you unplug one and move one lamp to the middle by securing it to something else....?? Do whatever you can, but for sure get them out of that oven.

Look at the glow from your heat lap its almost completely fills each side of the brooder. My guess is its to hot for the chicks in that brooder. Check the heat on each side of your brooder. Then you need to give them a much cooler area to go with a warm area so they can get away from the heat if they need to. Get some electrolytes in the place of water see if that helps. There is a home made electrolyte formula that you can make from items in your kitchen. Don't give chicks any water or liquid that is cold. You want it at room temp before giving it to them. Here is the recipe I use for my own chicks. 2 quarts of water, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of Sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda. I place all this in a small pot put it on my stove and heat it till sugar is dissolved. I let cool and give to my chicks changing the water each day. I double my recipe and refrigerate what is left over. I remove a cup of the liquid and sit on the counter to warm up each morning. The electrolytes will last for a week in the frig.

It's the heat ... Those metal bins, as said in prior post, radiates the heat in there & you got 2 lamps .... I use plastic bins, heating pad (without the auto shut off). When I first started used a 40 - 60watt incandescent bulb w/a clamp on lamp, it was warm enough. Also you want the "heat" on one side when the opposite is "cool" so they will move from the heat as need.

Thank you! This set up was just set up today though in an attempt to try and separate them to try and save some. So the heat lamp I doubt is the issue. The old set up they all were together and had a heat lamp
