Hi, I have a 3 1/2 y/o Golden Comet or Red Sex Link hen who hasn't been doing very well for the past few days. She seems to have a sour or impacted crop, but I've been making her vomit about 15 times a day, and syringe feeding her applesauce and water to flush the impaction out. When I was vomiting her last night, the applesauce and water flushed out a bunch of millet from bird seed and some brown-green goopy sludge that smelled awful.
I've been following all the information from another post on here but nothing seems to help. I thought she could've eaten piece of a stray water balloon I missed from the yard, but that doesn't seem like the case now. I had two other hens from her batch and her hatchery die from a related cause. Her legs are very thin and frail, and she's very skinny. She eats and drinks well, and is very active [running and jumping up for pizza
] but she just seems like she's slowing down a lot. Three 2 1/2 week old peachicks recently adopted her as their mother, and I think they would be heart broken if they lost her. She acted like they weren't even there 3 days ago, but today she was feeling better and pecked them lightly because they weren't "hers". Go figure. Now she seems very depressed and wont move unless she wants to. I was thinking that since she is a high-production breed, this could be a reproductive cancer because a lot of those breeds get that and die around her age. I don't know what to do or what to think. Also, the food doesn't go anywhere from the crop. It just.... sits there. Today she had at least two very watery, very dark green, poops with some liquidy urates. She took the peas down to the garden today and they all took dust baths and ate tomatoes. I'm really concerned for her, and the reason that the bird seed and chicken food in her crop isn't going anywhere made me think that it was an impact. But, she does have a small, hard lump on the ?left? side of her abdomen, so maybe it's a tumor. I can get pictures if that would be helpful. I live in VA so maybe I could take her to the Virginia Tech Vet Center? Any suggestions/comments would be helpful. Thanks, Rachel.
