Sick hen (update: now dead) part of a 6 month death party PICS Page 2

When I went to lock them up, my cocoo maran was sitting in the nest boxes. I put her on the perch, and when I came back in five minutes later, she was on the ground. I DON'T WANT THE SAME THING TO HAPPEN TO MY MARAN! I am terrified that I will find her dead tomorrow.

Can anyone help me as to what is going on?

I'l rewrite the "deaths" list here in the order that they happened.

Droopy Delaware - became droopy mid July, died early August.
Hock walking campine - early august
Sudden death brama - early August just after campine
Purple comb welsummer - September 26
Easter egger with brain tumor - September 26
Rooster with marek's - November 13
Purple comb Red star- November 30
Post-fowl pox Welsummer - December 27
Barnevelder that this post is about - December 30

Thanks.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I would call the closest Veterinary University and see where to get an autopsy done. Some other things I'd start with:

1. Check for mites and lice. You should check every chicken (at night if they aren't cooperative).
2. Feel each chicken to see if their weight is good. You can do it when you check for mites if you wish. Feathers hide weight loss.
3. Have a fresh "flock fecal" tested ASAP. Call a local Vet to see where you can have it tested for chicken parasites and cocci.
4. Add a Vitamin and Mineral supplement to their water (feed stores carry it) now and change the water every other day at a minimum.
5. Clean out all the bedding in case there is a problem there.
6. Check to see if any plants have been sprayed where they range and see if any muddy puddles are present where they range as well.

I feel so fortunate there is a local Avian Veterinary Hospital and 2 other vets who treat chickens close to us.

Keep us posted!

thanks artsyrobin and chickerdoodle - good info.

I'll immediately start going through chickerdoodle's list. Thanks so much.

thanks for the info about vets - we are doing some calling since it looks like my cocoo is on her way.

I found her sitting on the floor, close to the same place I saw her yesterday night. The back tips of her comb were turning blue/purple. White and green runny droppings and right behind her - it looks close to what the barnevelder looked like.

She would close her eyes often.

I took pics, will upload them later.

Thanks

I have separted her, nad she still just sits. Fed her food and water. She does have some energy, since When I went to separate her she had wattled to the waterer to drink.

Everyone was on the perch tonight.

Update on my maran - doing better!!! She actually jumped out of the little box that she was isolated in. I moved her to a larger box. I am not sure if she was finding the food and water, so I hand fed/watered three times a day, and she ate and drank a lot. Her comb is a little less purple, but it looks like she now has a fowl pox sore on it that I hadn't seen before.

Oh, FYI I have fowl pox going through my flock right now. It is almost over, only a couple birds with a couple spots here and there.

I will post pics soon - sorry for the delay!

Please realize that this is a different bird than what this post was originally about.

These are all pics of when I found her in the coop yesterday morning. She is better than this now.

here is the her poo when I found her in the coop.
