Sick hen with yellow face?Help please.

Hi,

I would call Peter Brown at First State Vet, I am clueless. If it is the liver, you would need something to help detox it. Rescue Remedy maybe?

I would also separate her from the flock in case it is contagious, give her some treats like hard boiled egg and yogurt.

I would contact a licensed vet for a consultation and make sure you're not putting your whole farm at risk. I'm not sure what it is either, but better to know what you're dealing with.

Hi guys well I think I was overdoing it on the antibiotics because since we stopped it she seems to be getting better a lot less yellow and more active. Thank you for the advice much appreciated.

I'm glad you found the cause. I guess some things overload the liver, well I for sure didn't know that Terramycin or any abx would be a heavy load on the liver. That's pretty important info. Sorry we had to learn it thru your poor sick chicken.

I have a yellow faced chicken who is not on any meds. Here is a pic of what she should look like and what she does look like.
Any thoughts?

Top picture? That hen's comb looks pale and shriveled up, like maybe she's anemic and dehydrated? are the white of her eyes yellow?

Yea, yellow would be liver failure. If it's the problem, either her red blood cells are dying too quick and the pigment from them is storing up in their skin, or they have a liver that's not working well. Lot's of water is really all you can do since a blood transfusion is out of the question. Has she maybe eaten something toxic?

What do you do for anemia or dehydration?
For the anemia you could start by dusting her for mites and lice and spraying the coop for them. Mites can cause anemia. You could also de-worm her with something like Safeguard or Valbazen.

Dehydration is trickier if you aren't able to tube feed or give sub Q fluids. Is she acting perfectly normal? Has she lost weight?
