My bantam has been crowing like he was starting to crow despite being 1 year old and having crowed well for the past months. Hes also a bit lethargic and he has mucus on the bottom of his mouth which smells bad and is closing his eyes a bit.

i gave him a little bit of apple cider vinegar as a precaution for now.

Edit: I forgot to mention he lifts his head a lot like hes trying to adjust something

Hi,

I'm really sorry to hear this. I'm not exactly sure what this is, but it may be a crop issue, especially Sour Crop. Poultry that twitch their head/weird ducking may be a sign of Sour crop to prevent whatever food from entering the esophagus, along with the yeasty odor in their breath.

If you want, I just wrote a post about this (regarding sour crop - titled ''HOW TO TREAT SOUR CROP - SEEMINGLY EFFECTIVE - UPDATED'') - and perhaps it may help you a bit to compare the symptoms; which would seem more helpful than me compacting everything on here.

Best of luck! :)

Im starting to doubt its Sour Crop. My other chicken passed away and had similar symptoms, I thought it could be a coincidence but when I touched his crop (i made sure he ate so i could touch his crop well) and it felt normal. I’ll be inspecting it again in a few hours to see if the situation changed.

I am sorry to hear. I hope you will find answers regarding what it is and that your chicken will feel better! Best of luck.

Do you see any yellow canker or plaques inside his beak and throat? It can smell bad and is treated with Fish Zole or other anti protozoan drugs. Sour crop which involves a puffy crop that does not empty overnight, and can be from a fungal or bacterial crop infection, can small bad as well. Pictures can be helpful. Here is some info on crop disorders:
