I'm hoping to find a female mallard if I can.

Yeah, that's what I would do. I have one female, but I'm keeping her. You can look on ebayclassifieds.com, Craigslist, or you could even decide to hatch some eggs. If you can't find a female mallard, you can get a different breed of duck around the same size. I wish you lots of luck!
