Sick Pea Chick Died - Going to Vet School For Necropsy - Will Post Results

You mean this? (for chickens)? :idunno
Chickens get at least 11 what?

Chickens get at least 11 different strains of coccidiosis, and the label only two for chickens, Eimeria tenella and Eimeria necatrix as you can see. I was told that every breed of bird or mammal gets a different type of coccidiosis.

I have no idea what type/strain peafowl get. If puppies or kittens get it, I believe, thery are treated with a sulpha drug like Sulmet.

Oh ok. Gotcha'. ;)

Good question. Let's see if someone chimes in. From the sound of all of this, I need to make an appointment with the avian vet just so he can answer questions. I'll ask him that when I talk to him. He left work early due to being sick. :(

In the meantime, you might want to get some Corid (amprolium, it's what's in medicated chick starter) in case you don't see more improvement. You can get it at TSC in the cow section.

Hopefully someone can comment on this as well.

Ok. I have to stop there today to get feed. I will see if they have some. I"m in the process of stocking my medical kit for all of the animals. Looks like it's going to take me a while to get everything that I need. I found a nice list on the UPA website.

I'll be rushing home in 15 minutes to check on my patient. Please send good vibes our way that my girl is doing well. :fl

I will post an update with pics of course.

I decided to do another table that shows one of my chicks downward spiral. He, like yours, looked fine one day then quite ill the next. When I picked him up on 09-19 I knew we were in trouble. At that point, based on his previous gains, he should have weighed around 1500 grams, not 1265, which was below his 09-03 weight of 1340. He's still well below where he should be, but at least he's headed the right direction.

Here is all of my weight and medication data in spreadsheet form. My spreadsheet takes their most recent weight and calculates the oral dose of the listed medications. Then if they need something, I don't have to think, lol.

1000

Here are two pics of Red's poo on 09-19

I'll see if I can get some "after" pics tomorrow.
