SICK PEAHEN

Some of the Baytril, like the stuff from allbirdproducts, is not injectable. I would only inject if the medication is in an injectable bottle.

He had to go to two different vets to get Baytril and the one he got it from also sold him the syringes and needles. I assume it is the right stuff as he talked with them about the problem and it being for a peafowl.

Ok everyone, another update.....about 6pm this evening I gave her the last of 5 Baytril injections, all were given in the back if the neck and none poked thru the other side. Therefore, I am out of medication. I took a warm wash cloth and layed over the infected area (not sure I left it long enough tho) and immediately some milky liquid came out from her eye area. I was able to pry her eyelid open, however the eye is so full of this milky liquid, I could not see her actual eye ball. I pushed gently in that area and a minor amount oozed out. The area feels harder than it did this afternoon. I'm going to repeat this process tomorrow so I'll have better light. I'm afraid to get too rough with her but she didn't seem to be in pain. I'm concerned surgery maybe the ultimate answer but hoping not. Thoughts?

Can you take her to the vet? It may be safest and quickest route to healing...

Very warm compresses will help. If you are a hot tea drinker a very warm ( NOT uncomfortably hot) tea bag makes a great eye compress. Other than that go back and read Dany12's post. If Baytril hasn't cleared it up it isn't going to. If she's just been this way since Saturday, then it shouldn't require surgery. Try the tylan first.

DW, @OkieQueenBee , were talking and remembered that it was Oxytetracycline that we injected directly into the turkeys sinus that healed them right up. DW was told to do that from someone on BYC before we got peas and it worked great. We have that on hand.

@GLPEAFOWL , if you are up to a road trip, Candy said that she would be more than happy to help you clean out that eye socket. If you want to try the Tylan 200 injectable, I have plenty of that on hand and can make you up a few syringes.

I also have about ten ml left in a bottle of Baytril 100 if you need that, or we have Penicillin. Whatever you need if you can't find it locally.

How much of the Tylan should I give her and for how long if I'm able to obtain some locally?
And is there different types or versions of Tylan? If I'm not able to get some, I may take you up on your offer @KsKingBee

Draining the area with a needle/shringe an option?

I would think like Trefoil said, 2 ml per day. One ml morning and evening IS like you have been doing with the Baytril.

Tylan 200 is what you want and can be bought at Tractor Supply, call first.

If you can get cottage cheese through a needle. I don't think that would be an option especially since you said that the swelling is getting harder.
