Sick roo bubbling sound from lungs

Maybe it did stir up some stuff? But the sounds in the lungs are definitely a bad sign.

This is the stuff I used. You can get it at TSC. I got 22 gauge needles and the screw on syringes from there as well. Doesn’t hurt to have that kind of stuff handy if it ever is needed again. I think you get 6 of each in a box.

Haven't had a chance to go buy those antibiotics yet. I gave him a fist full of chickweed about an hour ago and it seems to have helped some.

At least there’s some improvement. The antibiotics may or may not do the trick. Just depends on what he’s suffering from, or what’s attacking his body. But when it’s severe, it never hurts to try all avenues when you can’t get to a vet.

Have you added any new birds to your flock recently? A rattly breathing can be rales from a respiratory disease, or sometimes from food and water coming back up into the throat when the crop is full. I would make sure he is drinking well, and offer him some wet chicken feed, and bits of scrambled egg or tuna. He is very pale, so I would look him over for any mites or lice under his belly and elsewhere. He might benefit from some Poultry NutriDrench or Poultry Cell drench 2-3 ml a day. Is he molting? It could be what is causing him to be flaky, but I would also look for loose scales in case he has scaly leg mites. That is treated by rubbing vaseline or a thick oil into his leg scales once or twice a week.

My internet has been horrendous. Last addition to my flock was mid September, quarantined them for 6 weeks and not a single one of them has displayed the slightest illness. I haven't seen any mites or indication of any other bugs or fungus or anything like that. Aside from the paleness, the dry comb, wierd flaking, bubbly breath and muscle weakness he had no other symptoms.


But I have a bit of an update. He's doing very much better now. The day that I found him sick and quarantined him I decided to just quarantine and let him rest. I put no food or water in with him so that he'd just stay still. Then the next day I gave him water and waited til he drank a lot to feed him. For food I gave him a small amount of all flock and a lot of chickweed. He was moving around a little yesterday but still very weak and uncoordinated. Today I did the same but I added a small amount of poultry booster on top of the chickweed and now hes strutting around and stretching his wings. He looked dead when I found him, crazy turn around so far.

Hes moving around like normal now. Not eating great or crowing but I'm pretty sure it's because he's depressed, he'll eat all the chickweed I give him but is being picky with feed. Id say he looks to be over the illness. How long would you guys wait before giving a clean bill of health and returning to the flock?

So glad that he has been getting better. I am not sure that he can safely be put back in with his buddies. Usually when they are separated, the others may beat up on him upon his return.

Yea I had a feeling it might be I'll advised. He's from a bachelor flock and every bird in that flock is there because they are too aggressive. Which is funny this ones pretty docile to me now, not even flighty when I walk up to him. Him getting sick just might have saved him from getting processed. I let him out of the hospital so he can walk around the property but he seems pretty intent on getting back in with the others so we'll see how that goes. But otherwise he's looking good, got most of his color back and appears healthy.
