Sick silkie?

She looks like she's loosing feathers, too. Maybe she's got mites but I dont know alot about chicken illnesses. Have you looked at the skin where she is picking at it? You would probably see the problem if you did.

Make sure your multi vitamin does NOT have any IRon in it. You might want to put a help request to see if any one in your NC group has some vitamins they would lend you....Also, your pediatrician might hae samples, they would share! Wishing and praying for good success.

We checked, even using a magnifier, and saw nothing. I am at a loss. Checking with a pediatrician in the morning to see if they have vitamin samples.

Haven't seen the video - sorry but am supposed to be making dinner

- is it possible she had a head injury? Given she's a silkie with that open head - and those are strange behaviors - I just wonder...but am hoping that the vitamin boost will help!

I had one that did something similar and the vitamins help. Is she pooping? Give her scrambled eggs and some gatorade. Keep her warm and dry. Make sure her vent is not clogged. Hope she perks up.

She doesn't crow, and she bawk bawked when we bathed her. I assume she is a she

She is moving about a little today, moreso than yesterday morning, but still lays balled up most of the time.

If it is a head injury, it happened at least a month ago. Will she ever get better? This is no quality of life.

I have a very strange polish hen/roo.. not really sure if it is a he or she, but he has had failure to thrive since we brought him home on Aug 1. We call it a he, because that's what we were told.. Anyway, he has NO balance, can't fly from a foot in the air.. He is skinny (despite being wormed and loused). He doesn't roost well, sometimes the others push him off very easily. They don't bully him at all though, which we are thankful for..

The wry neck came on very suddenly, but the neck thing went away after vitamins. This condition is just a vitamin deficiency, and wouldn't be fatal (I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be, but the quality of life is not the highest if untreated), as long as she is getting food and water. She might still be a little odd after her vitamin levels are back to normal, but the neck issue should be gone.

I paid 11.99 for my bottle of vitamin drops. I am Canadian, so your price would be less (if American). I would really give this a try. Be careful no other chickens are around to spill your bottle while giving it to your silkie girl.

I had to leave my house for three days, b/c I had a friend going through some serious issues. I am shocked that she lived thru it, b/c no one was home to feed her between 7 and 5 . I picked up pedialite powder, selenium, poly vi sol and vitamin E. She doesn't seem any worse, possibly a touch better, but it is really hard to say. None of the other chickens have any issues. She still digs at her breast, so I think we might dust her today. What's better/ safer (especially since she is IN the house) DE, or Sevin?
