One day, I bought a box of poodle puppies from a lady that brought them in. I didn't normally do that, but it was special circumstances. They were dropped off while another person was in the store to return a dog. It had been sold to him at below cost a week before, because it had been in store longer than I liked to keep them. I told him when he bought it that is was sold "as is" (all vet paperwork was current and went with the pup) and he couldn't bring it back if I sold it at the price he paid. After a heated discussion that lasted over an hour, I finally said, fine, here's your money.
He pocketed the money and then pointed to the puppies and asked how much those were. I said those will not be for sale until they have been vet checked and have health certificates. He asked how much if he bought one before that. I knew where this was going and had no intention of selling him another puppy. How much will you sell them for after the vet check? - $400 (actually it was half that) How much if I buy it before it goes to the vet? - $500 How much if I get it without a warranty? - $600 How can it be higher? - $700 But that is ridiculous! - $800 Oh, I see how it is! - Evidently not, - $900.
He walked out. I didn't do that with customers, normally, but he was special.
