What infuriates me is that everyone has again turned this into a rant for gun control! The guy stole the guns from his mom, who legally owned them. We should be concentrating on healing and remembering, not fighting like rabid dogs about an irresolvable issue!

Kids can really surprise you with their perspectives, can't they?

I told DD about what had happened at Newtown after I picked her up from school. Her initial reaction was no words, just whimpers. She pretty quickly went to anger. Then she said, "I hope Nita doesn't hear about this, not for a long while, anyway." Nita is a friend of ours who has been expecting a baby. We'd had word that she'd gone into labor the night before. I found DD's desire to protect Nita's feelings touching (turns out, Nita's baby wasn't in a hurry, and was actually born on Saturday).

I agree with you, Tani. We should focus on healing the hurt. Unfortunately, some people don't "do" pain, so trying to "fix" the situation is a safe distraction. I guess we all have to find our own way to deal.

How many times have I been the one that told you to stay away from the moats with Sour? And what about his potato salad I warned you about??? I mean, geesh!!!

But on a serious note, I have been struggling with major anger issues since Friday. I've been questioning my faith, angry over such a thing happening, and holding Mini every chance I get. She dressed in the school colors of Sandy Hook today for school. One of the kids in her class (when I helped her carry her stuff in due to her wrist being in a very long splint) asked her why she was in green and white, Mini looked at her and said (I got teared up when I heard her) "I am wearing these colors in memory of the 20 children in CT that went to be with Jesus on Friday. They do not deserve to be forgotten." You know, she drives me nuts at times, but then she totally blows me away when she makes a statement like that. Her teacher came over, hugged her, and told her she was right and they were going to have a discussion in class about what happened Friday and how to prepare in the event it happened here. I was like "WHAT???" But I understand. Anyway, sorry I got off on another subject..

I agree Tani. A gun is an inanimate object that requires an outside force to interact with it in order for it to work. It was not the gun that did this. I agree we need to be remembering the young and not so young lives lost. We need to focus on the victims and NOT the perpetrator. We should be, as a nation, standing with the parents and families of those victims and not going on rants about gun controls..

DD's school (middle school) held a lockdown drill yesterday. Today they had a short memorial service (attendance optional) and the student body were encouraged to wear green and/or white. DS's school (high school) had a "moment of silence" yesterday, and a "for real" lockdown (unrelated).

I went to a local elementary school today (my job) to speak to a group of about 70 kindergarteners. It was all I could do to not think about the ones at Sandy Hook Elem. I had to keep distracting myself because I would feel my throat tighten and my eyes start to well up. I managed to get through it but can't imagine being a teacher having to work in a class room full of children that you know and care about all day every day this week. They have to be so strong....
