In the case of minis, they are very curious. The one time I burned some brush in the pasture, I had to keep shooing them away - I was afraid they'd get burned (all that hair is pretty flammable, y'know). The hair ain't the only thing they have a lot of that's flammable -know what I mean?

Once, way back when I was a kid, my best friend and I were up at a local farm leaned against a fence waiting to go coon hunting with the farmer when we heard this hissing sound.

One of his horses had backed her butt up against the fence between the two of us and gas bombed us. It made a lasting impression.

They are really good at that, especially when I'm picking out their back feet.

All of those old Westerns (or any other film that has horses in it) seems to have some dramatic scene where a horse is bucking. Having watched many horses do it, in play or otherwise, I know something that the movie audience probably doesn't. The Foley artist may have added the sounds of thudding hooves and the horse squealing, but there is one sound effect that isn't there - farts that are almost as loud as gun fire. I guarantee you, that much movement is gonna shake loose a lot of gas; it turns all that drama into high comedy.

I do know that the occurrence impressed the heck out of my buddy and me. Just think of the mentality of 2 twelve year olds or for that matter that of a seventy two year old.
